Prof. Martins S.O. AISIEN Ph.D., FPPSN, FZSN

Prof. Martins S.O. Aisien is a Professor of Parasitoloy at the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. Prof. Aisien was awarded the DAAD scholarship in 1987 to study at the University of Hamburg, Germany, where he obtained Ph.D in Biochemical Parasitology. His research interests are in Biochemistry of Parasites, Public Health Parasitology, Parasites of Herps (Amphibians, and Reptiles), Land use regimes and their effects on amphibian parasites. He has trained several students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, especially in the field of Animal and Environmental Parasitology. He has examined for many Nigerian Universities and has also served as assessor for a number of institutions. He has published extensively in high impact journals and has authored books and book chapters. He is a member of several Learned Societies and holds the fellowship of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (fppsn) and the Zoological Society of Nigeria (fzsn). He is a reviewer for local and international journals.

Prof. Beckley IKHAJIAGBE  Ph.D.

Prof. Beckley Ikhajiagbe is a Faculty member at the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, where he is a Professor of Plant Ecophysiology and Environmental Biotechnology, with more than two decades of experience in research and teaching, he serves to ultimately propel solutions in the areas of Plant Ecophysiology, Remediation Biotechnology, Plant Stress Coping Biology, Bioeconomy, Sustainable Agriculture, natural products resource development, Gene-Environment Interactions, and Plant-Microbe Interactions. Prof. Ikhajiagbe is also researching ways to promote rice and legume development in Southern Nigeria by strengthening plant-microbial interactions for improved nutrient availability, stress tolerance, and yield improvement.

In the previous 10 years, he has supervised over 20 Ph.D., 6 M.Phil., and over 30 M.Sc. candidates. With the support of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, he has also successfully hosted over 10 international exchange students from several European universities on internship programmes in his Lab. He has won numerous scientific awards and grants from major grant organizations, as well as serving as an external examiner on several postgraduate examination panels around the country in the fields of Bioeconomy, Plant Ecology, Microbiology, and Sustainable Agriculture. Prof. Ikhajiagbe serves as a resource person on several accreditation panels throughout Nigeria for the Nigerian National University Commission. He also acts as a resource person for some African Centres of Excellence on Environment Standards and Biosafety. He serves on the Appointment and Promotion Boards of several tertiary academic and research institutes as an External Assessor. He is a member of the Technical Working Group of the Africa Biogenome Project (AfricaBP). He also has over 250 journal and book publications to his credit. He serves as an editor for numerous international publications.

Sese-Owei A. Ekaye B.Sc, PGDCS, M.Sc, PhD (Benin)

Dr. Sese-Owei A. Ekaye is an Associate Professor and Researcher in Ecological Toxicology and Biodiversity Unit of Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. His special area of research is in the use of drones/GIS/remote sensing/computer technologies in resolving environmental degradation and challenges, the use of natural products and resources in amelioration and remediation of disturbed ecosystems, limnology, fisheries, wildlife and oceanography. He also has several professional certifications; GPS/GIS/Remote Sensing Certification, Survival Swimming Certification with PFD & PPE, Helicopter Underwater Escape Training and Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET). He is author of several scientific papers in reputable journals, locally and international, in addition to two chapters in books and over 30 technical papers and reports. He served as Editors in Tropical Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Benin Science Digest, and a reviewer for various Local and International Journals. He is a Consultant Ecologist for several companies and a World Bank M&E, ESMP and Need Assessment Consultant. He has not less than 25 years research in the environment of the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. He is a member of many academic/scholarly associations.

Paulinus N. Okolie Ph.D

Dr N.P. Okolie is a Professor of Toxicology in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Benin. He obtained a PhD in Toxicology 1994 from University of Benin, and rose to the rank of Professor in 2005. He has published extensively in many reputable international and Nigeria-based journals. His current research is focused on the anti-carcinogenic properties of Annona muricarta (soursop) and Vernonia amygdalina (bitter leaf), uterotonic properties of Talinum triangulare (water leaf), and the laxative effects of Euphorbia heterophylla. He has successfully supervised many students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and functioned as External Examiner for undergraduate and graduate degrees in many Nigerian Universities. A University scholar in his undergraduate years, Dr Okolie won many academic laurels and graduated top of his class in 1980. Dr. Okolie is a member of several learned societies, including Nigerian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, New York Academy of Sciences, American Academy for the Advancement of Sciences, and the Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology.

Emoefe Sunny Odjimogho B.Sc. (Optom); OD; MHPM; MSC; FNCO

Dr. Emoefe Sunny Odjimogho is an Associate Professor of Optometry, Department of Optometry, University of Benin, Benin City. He is co-author of a book of international repute (Understanding Common Eye Problems, A Treatment Guide) and author of manual of the ophthalmic lab. He has over 25 journal articles, conference papers and seminar presentations at local and international fora. He is a former Chairman of the Optometrists & Dispensing Opticians’ Registration Board of Nigeria (OBORBN). He had headed several Board accreditation teams to many Universities and Schools of Health Technologies. He had been appointed member of NUC accreditation teams in many Universities. His Area of Specialization is Orthoptics and Vision Science.

Hakeem Olalekan Shittu B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc. (Benin), Ph.D. (Guelph), FLS (London)

Hakeem Olalekan, Shittu is a Professor in the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. He obtained his B.Sc. (Botany) with a First Class (Hons.) Division in the then Department of Botany (now Plant Biology and Biotechnology), University of Benin, Benin City. He was retained as a Graduate Assistant in 2000 after his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC).The following year, he was awarded the Federal Government of Nigeria scholarship to pursue his M.Sc. Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. In 2004, he was awarded the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan to pursue a Ph.D. Degree (Molecular Biology and Genetics) in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada where he also enjoyed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship. He is a Fellow of the Linnean Society (FLS) of London, United Kingdom. Prof. Shittu has attended several local, national and international conferences in Nigeria, Canada and the United States of America. He has numerous scientific publications in reputable national and international journals. He is also a seasoned public speaker, who has earned several international awards in public speaking career and won several prizes in speech contests. His area of research is in molecular basis of plant/pathogen interaction.

Ozekeke Ogbeide B.Sc. (Benin), M.Sc. (Ibadan), Ph.D. (Benin)

Ozekeke Ogbeide is a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, University of Benin, Benin City. He obtained MSc. degree in Ecology and Environmental Biology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and Ph.D in Ecotoxicology and Pollution Studies from the University of Benin, Nigeria. He has participated in several environmental programs both within and outside Nigeria. He is a member of the Ecotoxicological Research group of the University of Free State, QwaQwa Campus, South Africa. He has carved a niche in the use of established risk assessment models to predict potential ecological effects and human health risks of chemical contaminants in environmental matrices. Dr Ogbeide has several publications to his credit in peer-reviewed international journals including Chemosphere, Journal of Environmental Management and Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety. Dr Ogbeide serves as reviewer for various international journals. He is a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC).

Dr. (Mrs.) Omoyemwen Edo-Taiwo is a Lecturer in the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. She is an Environmental Parasitologist. She has authored a number of papers in scholarly journals. Dr. (Mrs.) Edo-Taiwo is a member of various national and international academic societies among which are Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN), African Amphibian Working Group (AAWG) and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).

Prof. Tunde Ohiokhioya Thaddeus Imoobe

Tunde Ohiokhioya Thaddeus Imoobe is a Professor of Hydrobiology/ Fish Biology at the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. He has over 29 years of University teaching and research experience and has supervised and graduated more than 40 higher degree students, including Masters and Ph.Ds in various aspects of Zoology, Hydrobiology/Fish Biology and Environmental Management. He has authored several scientific papers in reputable local and international journals, many of which are on environment related subjects; in addition to three chapters in books and over 100 technical reports, conferences, seminars and occasional publications. His research interest is the Ecological monitoring of the aquatic environment, with special emphasis on the physico-chemical, plankton and benthic studies, identification of freshwater, brackish and marine zooplankton and benthic macro invertebrates. He served as Assistant Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Benin, Research Advisor (Impact Assessment), Corporate Environment Department, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of Nigeria Limited, and was head, Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, University of Benin, Benin City. He is an external assessor of professorial candidates in some Nigerian Universities as well as external examiner in the Nigerian University system. He currently serves as a resource person to companies involved in Impact Assessment Studies including the Deepwater District, HSE Division of Total Upstream Nigeria (TUPNI) Limited, a subsidiary of Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (TEPNG). He is a Consultant Hydrobiologist to numerous Companies where he has conducted seabed surveys and contributed to over 80 technical reports on the Hydrobiology components of Environmental Baseline Study (EBS), Pre-Drilling Environmental Study (PDES), Post Drilling Environmental Study (PDES), Environmental Evaluation Study, Post Impact Assessment (PIA) study, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study and Environmental Evaluation Report Based Environmental Impact Assessment in Nigeria. He is Editor and Member of the Advisory Committee of African Journal of Health, Safety and Environment (AJHSE) and also, a reviewer for several journals within and outside Nigeria. Prof. TOT Imoobe has numerical and IT skills, developed through the application of statistics and measurement techniques. He is a member of several professional bodies including Nigerian Environmental Society, Nigerian Association of Aquatic Sciences, Entomological Society of Nigeria and Freshwater Biological Association of Nigeria (FBAN).

Dr. Dickson Onyenmulo Uwaya

Dickson Onyenmulo Uwaya is a lecturer in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. He holds a Ph.D in Phytomedicine from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria and a certificate in Desktop publishing. His research interests are on anti-arthritis, anti-asthmatic and anti-tussive plant remedies. His research findings have been published in national and international journals. He is an Associate Member of the Nigeria Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT).
